WHOA WHOA WHOA. excuse me.But the minimum wage is set for teenagers with first jobs/ college students TO GET EXPERIENCE. Because a higher paying job isn’t going to higher you unless ypu have experience. AND YOU GET THAT EXPERIENCE BY WORKING AT MINIMUM PAYING JOBS. and the higher paying jobs are harder jobs which is why they get more money. If you raise the minimum wage, then companies wont have the money to pay more employees so they look for the people with the most experience…So if companies can only higher people with experience and you dont have any because companies DONT HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY YOU?? well then you are never going to get a job. And when the minimum wage goes up, the price of everything goes up.And then we have the minimum wage earners complaining again. So stop saying that the minimum wage needs to be raised because it doesnt. What needs to happen is we need a better economy and thanks to obama, thats not going to happen for a while because obama doesn’t know what hes doing. So if you want to make more money, get experience and a better paying job.

You’re a shitty economist buddy.
Less than 15% of minimum wage worker’s are teenagers (age 14-19), the rest are adults aged 20 and over (85.7%). So lets stop pretending that these jobs are meant for students. The economy is shit and unfortunately, people have to settle for low wages because the alternative often is unemployment.
Higher paying jobs doesn’t equate to ‘harder jobs’. Often, the higher a position is, the less labor you are required to do.
"And when the minimum wage goes up, the price of everything goes up."
Inflation doesn’t necessarily work that way. Obviously, you’re just regurgitating the bullshit theories conservatives spew out while disregarding the statistics and history that proves otherwise. But since you’re using that argument, why not raise the minimum wage with the rise of inflation? Or productivity even?
If we had raised the minimum wage with the rise of productivity since 1968, it would currently be $21.72. In other words, we are creating far more and producing more profit for corporations, while being paid for a third of what we use to.
What do you have to say about that?
And raising the minimum wage to $10.10 will raise 1.7 million families out of poverty and reduce the need for them to use public assistance, saving the federal government $7.6 billion per year. Would you say you’re you against that?
The current federal minimum wage is $7.25. In none of the 50 states is that enough money to pay the average rent for a 2-bedroom apartment.
The minimum wage used to be able to keep a family of 3 above the poverty line. Now, the minimum wage can’t even keep a single parent working 40 hours a week, for an entire year without a single day off, above the poverty line.
When you raise the minimum wage, you’re putting more money into the pockets of the lower/working class. Their money is directly put back into the economy when the buy food, pay bills and generally spend their money. As oppose to higher paid people who have the luxury of saving their earnings. That means that businesses will generally make more money because the working class has more money to spend.
That’s my argument for raising the minimum wage, I would love to see your attempt to counter it.

The argument that if the minimum wage is raised, prices for everything must be raised is right-wing brain fodder and people are falling for it left and right. If CEO’s and upper management would take a SMALL paycut, they could easily balance out the “loss” to cover a raise in minimum wage. People keep perpetuating the myth that higher minimum wage means higher prices. This is just because corporations don’t even consider small paycuts for their upper management or anything that would cut into the company’s bottom line as an option and, therefore, don’t present it as an option. Let’s think outside the box for a second and think about how much it’s going to hurt some CEO’s to cut their annual salary by 30,000 dollars a year (just a ballpark figure…consider how much 30,000 would financially hurt a CEO bringing home 41 million a year, which is the salary suggested by the above image, assuming a 40 hour work week 52 weeks a year). Now, some might say, “But they don’t deserve to have their wages cut for their hard work.” CEO’s don’t necessarily work harder. They may be higher stress jobs, but there is a reason these people make salaries this big - because they have usually written their own ticket. Companies that claim that they will have to raise prices with an increase in minimum wage are basically telling us that they are not willing to give up a small percentage of their salaries for the greater good. These people making millions each year at corporations are usually the very ones complaining about public assistance programs. You can’t have both. If these companies would pay their employees a higher wage, the need for foodstamps, HUD housing, and Medicaid would decrease…which is what most right-wing individuals complain about regarding minimum wage earners. We can’t simply continue to cut public assistance funding, keep the minimum wage the same for god knows how long, and watch as our country crumbles due to wealth inequality (which is a HUGE problem in this country that no one with money wants to talk about) while the rich just continue to get richer. It is ridiculous and people need to stop eating up the shit that right-wing CEO’s and Fox News are dishing out. -Kitty

Halloween Miku Damage/Defect

Decided to take some “good” images of the defects/damage to the Halloween Miku Nendoroid. Which I’m still beyond angry about. Figured it’d be a good idea to have photo documentation of this - I’ve heard nothing but good things about Goodsmile’s customer service and them sending replacement parts, but I still like to have all my bases covered. This thing cost $60, I’m going to get it ready for display, goddammit.

Rundown on what exactly you see up there:

The first images show what I want to warn other owners of this about: BE CAREFUL WITH THOSE TWINTAILS. This joint snapped off with no extra tension or resistance. Just slid right off, so easily that I thought it was supposed to do that at first. I’ve poked around the interwebs, and have found at least one other person that had this same thing happen, so its quite possible that more copies of the figure have weak joints there. Take note that the peg of the joint that’s inserted into the hair piece itself is now rooted into the hair. It can’t be removed (easily, at least, there are ways to do it, its just a pain in the ass).

I’m hoping that Goodsmile will be able to send me a new hair piece and a new joint, but I’m not sure how capable they are of sending figure-unique parts like the hair. The joints they probably have barrels full of, but those hair pieces? Little worried. Might have to do a little handywork on that to get the peg out.

The other major problem is that the peg for her stand is too large to fit into her back. That’s really hard to illustrate through photographs (the best way to see it is to try and shove the damn thing in there yourself and realize how impossible it is). I’ve read that some people have heated up the peg with a hair dryer, then tried to push it in while the plastic is slightly softened by the heat. That might be worth trying, but again, I’d honestly just rather see a new piece shipped to me than have to try to jerry-rig the thing.

Hopefully this’ll all be sorted out soon. I want her out on my desk, hopefully before Halloween!

everybody fucking cut it out ok

Except the view of the average misogynist is accurate.

…How do you know this?Is it just because it’s ‘common knowledge’ that “the average misogynist is a disgusting neckbeard”?

Look, this idea is actually pretty dangerous to women as a class. People already brush off rapist men because “oh but he’s such a nice boy,” “but he’s such a funny guy,” spreading the meme that the “average misogynist” is fat and ill-groomed and is embarrassing in public (and therefore will illicit disgust, hahahaha visceral disgust correlates with evil, this is totally not encouraging forms of bigotry that use disgust at “ugliness” to self-propagate, this is totally enlightened and progressive and not a horrifyingly medieval take on “how to tell someone is evil”) only HELPS TO HIDE the majority of misogynists, most of whom are already very good at using manipulative and abusive tactics to hide their worst qualities from society at large.

This kind of idea makes it harder to recognize that yes, that hilarious director, that actor or musician with the winning smile, really did do those horrible things.

And before anyone says it, yes I am a fucking girl. I’ve even had a guy who was, in fact, a literal brony-slash-anime-fanboy creep on me in college, getting weirdly personal-friendly with me and showing me his “waifus” when I only wanted to express a mutual interest in pastel horse worldbuilding. (Though, for accuracy’s sake, he looked more like this guy than like this guy.) But I think it’s scarier is I could have a conversation with a totally “normal” guy right afterwards, and have absolutely no idea if they saw me as a person, a vaguely sentient subhuman, or a piece of fucking meat. The socially-awkward nerd-subculture types are easy targets, but they’re not the root of misogyny, nor the most common or insidious vectors of it.

[This is in addition to, not as a replacement of, Roachpatrol’s original point, which is that it’s pretty shitty to say your idealogical enemies are ugly and loathesome-looking in order to make them them more hatable, especially whenever you rely on fatphobia to do so. You are basically saying “there is a positive correlation between being fat/ugly and being a horrible person” and that’s…messed up? I thought more people recognized this was messed up?]

Thanks, dude, this is a great take-down. Cruelty is insidious and utterly self-defeating to an equality movement—you go after the wrong targets, you start doing the easy thing instead of the right one. It’s fucked up. It’ll fuck you up. You have to keep in mind that even your enemies are people.

Your enemies are people, and that’s the scariest part about them.

I tend to forget that going to church is a thing people do because my family stopped when I was like 6.

And then I make the mistake of going to a fast food restaurant at noon on a Sunday and am immediately reminded.

Like holy shit I disagree with Sarkeesian’s criticism of Bayonetta but holy shit I’m not gonna call criticism of it a “feminist AGENDA” (which is suddenly a bad word) and demand the game’s creator to speak against it
